Not so grouchy...

I'm nearly finished with my first real live knitting project. It's a toy dragon and when I'm done it will hopefully look something like this, except light yellow. The pattern is from Bernat and my friend, Nicole, gave it to me for Christmas. I've finished the body and now I'm working on the legs. I should be done by this weekend. I'll be sure to get pictures when I'm done. On another note, I've added a bunch of new links to my sidebar. They're all knitting links. I'm hooked.

My Christmas Un-Miracle... Bah Humbug!

Adventures of Last Week

Sunday and Monday: Uneventful

Tuesday: I rolled my right ankle/foot while taking out the trash at work and my foot swelled up and I spent 4 hours at the hospital waiting, waiting, getting a soft cast, waiting, getting an x-ray, and waiting. I stayed at my mom's that night as I have stairs at my house and ended up sharing a bed with my mother and Boodji and Cheeks and it wasn't pleasant in the least. Truly. The boys kick and my mom snores.

Wednesday: Returned to the doctor to learn that my foot was not broken, but seriously sprained and that I could not put any weight on it and had to keep it elevated. Was told that I might get a walking boot on Friday. Got a tetanus shot since I thoroughly abraded my left knee.

Thursday: Spent the day with my foot up and having an adverse reaction to my tetanus shot. (lethargy, pain, and the injection site swelled up and got hot and hard.)

Friday: Went back to the clinic where I was seen by a third doctor (it was a new one every time and I had to re-explain everything to each one). The office is completely lacking in adequate medical supplies and they didn't have any walking boots or anything else like it. I was given a prescription for a walking boot and sent over to another facility get fitted and was given an enormous and heavy boot- although I was still instructed to stay off my foot. Oh and did I mention that my pregnant sister had to chauffeur me around with her naughty little Boodji and Cheeks in tow? Friday I made my family take me home because I was going crazy cooped up in the house with all those people.

Saturday: More of the same. Sitting around knitting and watching TV with my foot up. It's mind-numbingly boring. It took hours for me to get someone in my family to come get me so I could get groceries - but I got to drive around in one of those motorized granny-carts which was cool except that it wouldn't go in reverse.

I now have this big ol' boot that I can walk with for very short amounts of time, but it's really really ridiculously heavy and I'm still not allowed to drive. The good news is that most of the Quasimodo-esque swelling has gone down... now I just have a multi-colored rainbow foot (various shades of purple, green, and yellow) and a hard ball the size of a prize shooter at the injection site of my tetanus shot that will hopefully go away soon. Oh yeah, and some insomnia while I'm complaining.

So I'm not so much in the Christmas spirit.

Bah Humbug!

My Christmas Miracle

My mom called me today and told me that my sister in-law, B, gave birth to a beautiful and healthy baby boy early this morning. His name is Jonathan (middle name has yet to be decided). He weighs 6lbs, 8oz and is 20 inches long. Hooray for B and J! Hooray for babies!!

Babies in and of themselves are miracles. Little Jonathan is the 7
th baby born to B and my brother, J. 7 babies are 7 miracles. Seriously, B is Superwoman. Of the grandchildren, Jonathan is the 7th boy and the 10th grandchild.

My mother told me the conditions of his birth and since my mother is somewhat prone to exaggeration and occasionally mixing up the facts... I cannot vouch for its accuracy. This is essence of the story that I was told:

B woke up in the night and told J she thought she was in the beginning stages of labor and that she felt like she needed to use the bathroom. J, who has been through 6 labors and deliveries with B, somehow deduced that she was transitioning and not in the beginning stages like she thought. B's best friend is also named B. We'll call her B2. She is a midwife. She just so happened to be sleeping in their guest room as she had recently arrived in Nashville to help B have her baby... in a hospital. J woke B2 up to investigate the situation and by the time they had returned to the bedroom, the baby was crowning. B2 was able to deliver Jonathan safely, including removing the umbilical cord from around his neck and regulating his low body temperature. B and Jonathan are now at the hospital where they have been thoroughly examined and both are very healthy and happy. Hooray for midwives. Moral of the story? Make friends with a midwife. She just may save your life on a cold winter's night.

See? A Christmas Miracle.

The End.

No Secret

I don't wear deodorant. Seriously. I don't like it. I don't need it. Yeah, you heard right... I don't need it. Don't hate me 'cuz I'm not smelly. Body odor is a pretty rare occurrence for me and it takes several days of not bathing to bring it about. And yes I have tested this. If I know it's gonna be a sweaty day I'll spray a little salt-water deodorant on after I bathe. You know you like it.

I only wash my face once a day. I stopped washing it with soap in the mornings because I noticed that 4 of my siblings with great skin only ever wash their faces if they're dirty or are wearing makeup. As soon as I stopped over-washing, my face got a lot happier.

Almost as soon as I wrote that my skin was great a few posts ago... it went haywire. So I won't tell you that it's recovering. Or that I'm nearly back to being makeup optional and glowy again. No way... I would never tell you that.

Oh yes, a mascara review. I tried MAC's Plush Lash mascara and it's driving me crazy. It does make my lashes supa-phat... but it's really dry and it flakes so bad that it gets in my eyes and makes me grouchy. It's crazy because I was using their Fiber Rich mascara which is literally full of chunks and it was smoother and didn't flake on me. I think I'll try Zoom Lash next. I tried Mascara X and liked it - but the fake rose smell was kinda strong. I'm just moving through all their mascaras to see what I like best.

Ok, the end.

My Most Favorite Thing?

My sister told me that ever since they put their Christmas tree up, my nephew, Boodji, is totally obsessed. If he is home, the tree lights MUST be on. He comes in the room, plugs the lights in, takes off his shoes and puts them under the tree - lining them up perfectly with his other shoes he's stashed under there, and then lays on the couch with his arms behind his head and watches the tree. I love it.

I'm currently in the process of knitting Santa hats for Boodji and Cheeks and I'll post some pictures as soon as I'm done. I've already finished one, I just need to make the pom pom and put it on the end. The boys can hardly wait to wear them.

In other news, I cut myself some bangs last night.
